Mentoring statement

The Bednarski lab is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive research environment for all trainees and staff. We appreciate that bringing together different voices is important for advancing science. Our lab is small and collaborative, and all trainees are expected to contribute to the learning environment within the lab. I work to create a lab environment that prioritizes scientific rigor and recognizes the unique strengths and contributions of each member. I am actively involved daily in the lab and have weekly 1:1 meetings with each trainee. I tailor my mentorship style to each trainee based on their prior experience, goals, and individual needs. Trainees are encouraged to develop new ideas and are given ample freedom to work independently as their abilities dictate. I am always available to provide feedback and guidance. I place a very high priority on the career development of my trainees and work with each to define career goals and to acquire the skills to achieve those goals. Trainees have opportunities to interact with collaborators and to present their work at local and national/international meetings.
